Quick answer: Oven stopped heating on fan-forced but top and bottom still work? It’s usually the fan-forced ring element. Element glowing but the fan silent points to the fan motor; a cooktop plate stuck on high or with no simmer points to its control switch. Match the model number (and PNC) on the oven’s model sticker. Elements, fan motors, switches and knobs are stocked in Australia and dispatched from Sydney the day you order when it’s in by 12pm Sydney time. Most ovens are hard-wired, so plan who fits it.

Oven and cooktop spare parts, starting from the fault
The roast has been in an hour and it’s still pale. Or the element glows but the fan behind it sits still. Or one cooktop plate only does full blast. Search “oven spare parts”, “Electrolux stove parts” or “Fisher & Paykel oven spare parts” and you land on a wall of listings. Start from the fault instead.
A fan-forced oven that blows cold usually needs the ring element around the fan, such as the Fan Forced Ring Oven Element Westinghouse Chef Simpson Electrolux. Elements run roughly $25–60, fan motors $35–45 and switches $17–45, against $100–165 for a call-out before parts.

Test before you buy
Isolate the oven at the switchboard first. Most ovens have no plug to pull.
- Which functions still heat? Bake and grill work but fan-forced blows cold: the ring element. Nothing heats but the light works: the thermostat, selector switch or thermal cut-out is more likely, so diagnose first. Oven not heating but light works ranks the causes.
- Continuity test on the element. With the oven isolated and the element’s wires off, a multimeter across its terminals should read a low resistance, roughly 20–30 ohms for a typical 2000–2500W ring. No reading means it has failed. A low reading between a terminal and the metal sheath means it’s shorted to earth.
- Spin the fan by hand. Isolated and cool, turn the blade. Stiff or gritty points to worn motor bearings; free but still when the oven runs points to the motor or its supply.
- Safety switch tripping? Usually an element shorted to earth. Leave the oven off until it’s tested.
Display ovens may show a code first; Westinghouse, Chef and Electrolux oven fault codes decodes them. Weighing repair against a new oven? How to match a fan-forced element
Rings that look alike can differ where it counts. Compare your old element with the listing on four points:
- Wattage. Often stamped near the terminals. Match it.
- Ring turns. A single ring and a two-coil ring are not interchangeable.
- Bracket or studs. Some elements come on a mounting bracket; others fix through studs.
- Terminal position. Where the connectors sit, and whether there’s an earth tab.
The Westinghouse, Chef, Simpson and Electrolux family is where the bracket question bites. Which fan-forced element fits your Westinghouse, Chef, Simpson or Electrolux explains with-bracket vs no-bracket, and the Chef Westinghouse Simpson Late Model element covers newer ovens. To see what the job involves, read fan-forced oven element replacement or how to replace an oven element.
Cooktop switches and knobs
On a coil or solid-plate electric cooktop, each plate has its own control switch. A plate stuck on full, or one that won’t hold a low setting, points to that switch. A plate dead at every setting could be the plate or its wiring, so test first.
For Chef, Simpson and Westinghouse, check the Infinite Simmerstat Control Switch; for Fisher & Paykel, the Single Energy Regulator Switch. Match the shaft shape and terminal layout, one switch per faulty plate, and photograph the wiring before anything is disconnected.
Knobs that crack, split at the shaft or spin without turning the switch usually pull straight off. The Technika Bellissimo knob pack suits those cookers; for other brands, match the shaft shape and send the model number. If an Arda rangehood light has gone dark, the Arda rangehood LED light guide explains why a 12V globe won’t do.
Safety, and who fits it
- Hard-wired 240V ovens and cooktops. Most are wired in with no plug. Isolate at the switchboard, and at the wall isolator if fitted, before anything is touched. In most Australian states, hard-wired electrical work must be done by a licensed electrician.
- Gas cooktops and ovens. Burners, ignition, thermocouples and gas valves are licensed gasfitter work only, and gas parts aren’t covered on this page. Gas cooktop clicks but won’t ignite covers the safe checks first.
- Ceramic and induction glass, and control boards. Diagnosis first. An induction zone that won’t heat can be the pan, a lock setting or a board fault, and boards are fitted after diagnosis, never on a guess. See induction cooktop not heating.
The honest approach: know the right part, then decide who fits it.
Not in stock: door seals, thermostats and clocks
Oven door seals, thermostats and clocks or timers aren’t in stock right now. Send your model number and PNC through the contact page for an honest yes or no. If the door won’t shut properly, oven door won’t close ranks the causes; the seal isn’t always it.
How to match your model
On Westinghouse, Chef, Simpson and Electrolux ovens the model sticker sits on the frame around the oven opening, visible with the door open, and carries a model number and a PNC. Freestanding cookers can have one behind the kick panel or storage drawer. Find your Westinghouse oven model number shows the spots.
Search the model number on the site, or browse the oven and stove parts store, the Westinghouse parts range and the Westinghouse model pages. Sticker gone? Send a photo of the old part with any numbers you can read via the contact page, and we’ll check before you order.
DIY or repairer?
Next to a new oven the parts are cheap: elements roughly $25–60, fan motors $35–45 and switches $17–45, against a $100–165 call-out before parts. Knobs and a rangehood lamp are simple swaps with the power off. Elements, fan motors and switches in a hard-wired oven or cooktop are licensed electrician work in most states, so the saving comes from pinning the fault and having the right part ready. Stop at gas, cracked glass and control boards.
Frequently asked questions
Why has my fan-forced oven stopped heating when top and bottom still work?
That pattern points to the fan-forced ring element behind the back panel, because bake and grill use separate elements. With the oven isolated at the switchboard, an element with no continuity across its terminals has failed. Match the replacement to the model number and PNC.
Why is my oven element glowing but the fan not turning?
The element is getting power, so the fan motor or its supply is the likely fault. With the oven isolated and cool, spin the fan blade by hand; stiff or gritty means worn bearings. Match the motor to your model before you order.
Why does my oven trip the safety switch?
Usually an element has broken down and shorted to earth, sometimes with a visible blister or split on the sheath. Leave the oven off and have it tested, then match the replacement element to the model number and PNC on the sticker.
Can I replace an oven element myself in Australia?
Most ovens are hard-wired to 240V, and in most Australian states hard-wired electrical work must be done by a licensed electrician. You can identify and buy the right element yourself, then have it fitted. Always isolate the oven at the switchboard first.
Why is my electric cooktop plate stuck on high?
A plate that stays on full at every setting, or won’t hold a simmer, usually has a failed control switch rather than a failed plate. Each plate has its own switch, so only the faulty one is replaced. Match the shaft shape and the model number.
Do you sell oven door seals, thermostats or clocks?
They aren’t in stock right now. Send your model number and PNC through the contact page and we’ll give you an honest yes or no, rather than leaving you to guess from photos.
Find the model number and PNC on the sticker, search it on the site, or send it via the contact page and we’ll match it. In-stock oven and cooktop parts are dispatched from Sydney’s Northern Beaches the day you order when it’s in by 12pm Sydney time.
