An LG oven runs checks on its temperature sensors, its door lock, its convection fan, its keypad and the relays that switch the elements, and stops with an F-code when one fails. The codes are short, but they map cleanly to parts, and most of those parts are a plug-in swap once the oven is isolated at the switchboard.

Which LG oven codes clear with Clear/Off?

LG’s own advice for most codes is to press Clear/Off and try the function again, then, if it returns, to turn off the circuit breaker for thirty seconds. F-3 caused by moisture, F-9 caused by a door not quite closed and F-11 caused by a power dip often clear that way. F-2, F-4 and F-7 come back as soon as the oven is asked to heat or the fan is asked to run, because the sensor or motor is still faulty. F-1 is the exception: do not keep retrying it. Turn the oven off at the switchboard and leave it off until the board is repaired.

F-2 and F-4: the temperature sensor

The oven sensor is a slim metal probe through the back wall of the cavity. It fails with age and heat, and F-2 on a single oven or F-2 and F-4 on a double are the result. Isolate the oven at the switchboard, undo the two screws holding the probe to the back wall, pull it forward to its plug and test it: open circuit means it is finished, roughly a thousand ohms at room temperature means it is fine and the fault is on the board. The sensor is a cheap part and a ten-minute swap.

F-9 and F-10: the door lock and latch

LG ovens lock the door for self-clean. The lock is a motor and switch in the top of the oven frame; when it does not reach the position the board expects, F-9 shows. F-10 is the latch mechanism itself jamming. Check the door closes squarely and nothing is trapped, then look at the latch hook through the top of the door opening. A lock motor that whirs but does not travel, or a latch that has bent, is replaced as an assembly.
