Quick answer: Samsung ovens show C-codes and short codes. C-20, C-21 and C-22 are oven temperature sensor faults, C-70 to C-72 are steam sensor faults on steam models, C-d0 to C-d2 are door or key faults, C-F0 to C-F2 are communication faults between the control boards, SE is a stuck key on the control panel and dE means the door or a divider was opened at the wrong time. Power off at the switchboard for a minute; a code that returns needs the sensor, the door lock or the board.

A Samsung oven watches its temperature sensor, its door, its control panel and the link between its boards, and shows a code the moment a check fails. The codes look cryptic, but they group cleanly: C-2x is temperature sensing, C-7x is steam sensing, C-dx is doors and keys, C-Fx is communication, and the two-letter codes SE and dE are about the panel and the door.
This guide covers the codes shown on Samsung’s freestanding and built-in ovens sold in Australia, including the NV, NQ and NE series wall ovens and the NX and NE ranges with Dual Cook and Flex Duo dividers. For each code you get the plain meaning, the likely cause and what to do. Samsung ovens are worth repairing: the sensors and door parts are inexpensive and most swaps are a screwdriver job once the oven is isolated at the switchboard.
Samsung oven error codes: quick-reference table
Codes are listed as they appear on the display. Where two generations of the platform use different codes for the same fault, both are shown. Always confirm against the manual for your exact model before ordering a part.
| Code | What it means | Most likely cause | What to do / the part |
|---|---|---|---|
| C-20 | Oven temperature sensor short-circuit or open | Sensor failed, connector corroded, wiring damaged | Isolate at the switchboard; check the sensor connector behind the back wall; replace the temperature sensor |
| C-21 | Oven temperature too high for the sensor reading | Sensor drifted, cooling fan not running, heater relay stuck | Let the oven cool; check the cooling fan runs; replace the sensor if the code repeats |
| C-22 | Temperature sensor fault (second sensor or sensor communication) | Sensor or its circuit on the board | Replace the sensor; if the code returns the fault is on the control board |
| C-31 | Meat probe fault (models with a probe socket) | Probe damaged, socket wet or corroded | Unplug the probe, dry the socket, retry; replace the probe if it repeats |
| C-70 / C-71 / C-72 | Steam sensor or steam system fault (steam and Dual Cook Steam models) | Steam sensor failed, water tank empty or not seated, steam generator | Fill and reseat the tank; power-cycle; a repeat is the steam sensor or generator |
| C-d0 | Key stuck or pressed continuously on the control panel | Grease or moisture behind the panel, damaged membrane | Wipe the panel, power off for a minute; replace the touch panel if it repeats |
| C-d1 / C-d2 | Door fault: lock or door sensor not reporting the expected state | Door lock motor or switch, door not closed, latch misaligned | Check the door closes squarely; replace the door lock assembly if the code returns |
| C-F0 / C-F1 / C-F2 | Communication fault between the main and sub control boards | Loose ribbon cable, moisture, board failure | Power off at the switchboard for a minute; check connectors; a repeat is a board repair |
C-A2 | Cooling fan or motor circuit fault | Cooling fan seized or its sensor | Check the fan spins freely; replace the cooling fan motor — fit the Damani Oven Fan Element DOFF6SS, DA6DOSS, DOMFP-6SS 0904 |
| SE | Short or stuck key on the control panel | Water or grease in the keypad, panel fault | Dry and clean the panel; power-cycle; replace the panel if it returns |
| dE / -dE- | Door opened during a locked cycle, or the Flex Duo divider was inserted or removed mid-cycle | Door or divider moved at the wrong time | Close the door or refit the divider and restart the program |
| E-08 / E-0A / E-0E | Power or control fault group on some ranges | Board or supply fault | Power off at the switchboard for a minute; service if it returns |
Oven not heating, no code | Element failed or thermal cut-out tripped | Bake, grill or fan element burnt out | Check each element visually and for continuity; replace the failed element — fit the Chef Westinghouse Simpson Oven Element 2000W Late Model 0330 |
Which Samsung oven codes clear with a power cycle?
Turn the oven off at the switchboard, not just at the panel, for one full minute. SE and C-d0 caused by steam or grease on the keypad often clear and stay cleared once the panel is dry. dE clears once the door is closed or the divider refitted. C-F codes caused by a power dip clear too. The temperature sensor codes C-20 to C-22 come straight back when the oven is asked to heat, because the sensor reading is still wrong, and that is the sign to replace the sensor.
C-20 to C-22: the sensor, and how to check it
The oven temperature sensor is a thin metal probe that pokes through the back wall of the cavity near the top. It fails open or short with age and heat, and C-20 is the result. Isolate the oven at the switchboard, remove the two screws holding the probe to the back wall, and pull it forward far enough to reach its plug. A sensor that reads open circuit on a multimeter is finished; one that reads roughly a thousand ohms at room temperature is probably fine and the fault is upstream on the board.
C-d1, C-d2 and dE: the door
Samsung ovens lock the door for pyrolytic cleaning and, on some models, for high-temperature programs. The lock is a small motor and switch in the top of the oven frame. When the lock does not reach the position the board expects, C-d1 or C-d2 appears. Check the door closes squarely on its hinges and nothing is trapped; a lock that clicks but does not travel is replaced as an assembly. dE is simpler: the door or the Flex Duo divider was opened or moved while the program needed it closed, and refitting it and restarting clears it.

Is it safe to fix an error code yourself?
Most of the codes above are cleared with a filter clean, a hose check or a plug-in part swap, and those are ordinary DIY jobs: unplug the machine, photograph the wiring before you unplug anything, and never bypass a door lock or a thermal cut-out. Anything involving the sealed refrigerant circuit, gas, or a mains-side repair belongs with a licensed repairer.
Frequently asked questions
How do I reset a Samsung oven error code?
Turn the oven off at the switchboard for one full minute, then back on. If the same code returns when the oven is used, the fault is real and needs the sensor, door lock or board named in the table.
What does C-20 mean on a Samsung oven?
The oven temperature sensor is reading open or short circuit. Isolate the oven, check the sensor connector behind the back wall, and replace the temperature sensor.
What is SE on a Samsung oven?
A stuck or shorted key on the control panel, usually from moisture or grease behind the keypad. Dry and clean the panel and power-cycle; a repeat means the panel needs replacing.
What does dE mean on a Samsung oven?
The door was opened, or the Flex Duo divider inserted or removed, during a program that needed it in place. Close the door or refit the divider and restart.
What are C-70, C-71 and C-72 on a Samsung oven?
Steam system faults on steam-cooking models. Fill and reseat the water tank and power-cycle; if the code returns the steam sensor or generator needs service.
Where is the model number on a Samsung oven?
Open the door and look at the sticker on the frame, usually on the left side or under the front edge of the cooktop on a freestanding range. The model reads like NV75N7677RS or NE6000K. Use it to match parts.
Read the code, then fit the part
Isolate at the switchboard, wait a minute, retry. A code that comes back is the sensor, the door lock or the board, and the sensor is a screwdriver job. Find your Samsung part now
