Quick answer: Front loader or dryer door dropping, scraping the seal, missing the latch or only closing when you lift it? The door hinge is usually worn or cracked. Tighten the hinge screws and check the latch hook first. If the door still moves at the cabinet mount, replace the hinge matched to the model number on the sticker. Washer hinges and dryer hinge plates are stocked in Australia and dispatched from Sydney the day you order when it’s in by 12pm Sydney time.

The door has dropped and now it won’t close
You swing the front-loader door shut and it lands low. It scrapes the seal, the hook misses the lock, and you have to lift it to get the click. Then the machine shows a door-lock error or won’t start. On a dryer, the door pops open and the drum stops.
When the door itself sits low, the hinge is the usual cause. It carries the whole weight of the door, and once it cracks or its mount wears, nothing lines up. Washer hinges such as the Hisense Washing Machine Door Hinge HWFL1014V HWFE1014VA run roughly $20–66, and dryer hinge plates $20–40. A call-out is $100–165 before parts.

Hinge, or something cheaper?
Three faults look like a failed hinge. Unplug the machine and check them first.
- Loose hinge screws. If any have backed out, snug them up without overtightening.
- A worn latch hook or interlock. If the door sits level but won’t click shut or lock, the hook or interlock is the likelier fault. Door won’t lock or start: interlock vs latch explains the difference, and interlock and handle kits by brand lists the kits. Fisher & Paykel WH7560 / WH8560 and Haier HWF75 / HWF85 owners have their own interlock and latch hook guide.
- A folded seal lip. A seal rolled at the bottom stops the door closing flat. Ease it back. A torn seal is a different part; door seal, gasket, bellows or boot sorts out the names.
Door stuck shut instead? Start with washing machine door won’t open.
The lift test: 30 seconds to be sure
With the machine unplugged, open the door fully and lift it gently at the handle side.
- Movement or a clunk where the hinge meets the cabinet: the hinge or its mount has gone.
- A crack in the hinge body or a bent arm: replace it.
- Solid hinge, screws were loose: tightening has fixed it.
Never force a dropped door shut against the lock, and never bypass the door interlock to get a load finished. The interlock is what keeps the door shut on a full, spinning drum.
Swapping a washer hinge or dryer hinge plate
- Unplug the machine, turn the tap off and make sure the drum is empty.
- Support the door before the last screw comes out. Glass doors are heavier than they look.
- Note which side the hinge sits on. Some brands make left and right versions, so compare the old hinge with the listing photo.
- Check where it fixes. On some models the hinge nuts sit behind the front panel, which means releasing the door seal and removing the panel. Take photos as you go.
- Fit the new hinge, tighten evenly, and check the door meets the latch without lifting.
Dryer hinge plates are simpler: the plate bolts to the front panel behind the door and is usually a screwdriver job. The Fisher & Paykel dryer door hinge plate guide walks through it, and the Fisher & Paykel Dryer Door Hinge Plate is the part it covers.
Why a dropped door causes lock errors and leaks
The hook on a front-loader door has to slide straight into the interlock. When the door sags, the hook arrives low or at an angle, the interlock can’t confirm the door is shut, and the machine won’t lock, won’t start or shows a door error. On a dryer, the door switch isn’t pressed properly, so the drum stops.
A sagging door also squashes the seal unevenly, so water can weep out where contact is light and the seal wears where the door drags. Fix the hinge before replacing a worn seal, or the new one wears the same way.
How to match your model
Most front loaders carry the model sticker on the door rim, inside the door opening. Dryers usually have one there and another on the back panel. Photograph it.
Every letter counts. Haier HWF10BW1 and HWF10DW1 sit one letter apart and appear on different hinge listings above. Hisense owners can see common faults in Hisense HWFL1014V parts and Hisense HWFE7510 parts, and Hisense door seal replacement covers a seal worn by a dragging door.
Search the model number on the site, or browse the washing machine parts store, the Hisense parts range and the Hisense model pages. Not sure? Send the model number through the contact page and we’ll check before you order.
DIY or repairer?
A hinge you can reach from the front is a sensible DIY job: roughly $20–66 for a washer hinge or $20–40 for a dryer hinge plate, against $100–165 for a call-out before parts. If the front panel has to come off, it’s still doable with patience and photos.
Stop and call a repairer if the interlock or its wiring is damaged, if the machine still won’t lock with a new hinge and a level door, or if a control board is suspected. Boards are fitted after diagnosis, never on a guess.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my front loader door dropping?
The hinge carries the full weight of the door, so over time it cracks or its mount wears and the door sags. Loose hinge screws do the same thing, so check those first. If the door still moves at the cabinet mount when you lift it, replace the hinge.
Can a broken door hinge cause a door lock error?
Yes. A sagging door brings the latch hook into the interlock low or at an angle, so the machine can’t confirm the door is shut. It may refuse to start or show a door error. Fix the hinge rather than forcing the door, and never bypass the interlock.
How do I tell if it’s the hinge or the door latch?
Do the lift test. With the machine unplugged and the door open, lift gently at the handle side. Movement or a crack at the hinge means the hinge; a level, solid door that still won’t click shut points to the latch hook or interlock.
Do washing machine door hinges come in left and right versions?
Some brands make left and right versions, so note which side your hinge sits on before you order. Compare the old hinge with the listing photos and match the full model number from the sticker. If you’re unsure, send the model through and we’ll check.
How much does a dryer door hinge replacement cost?
Dryer hinge plates run roughly $20–40, and most are a screwdriver job once the dryer is unplugged. A call-out is $100–165 before parts. Match the model number on the sticker around the door opening to the listing title before you order.
Do you stock Samsung or Bosch washing machine door hinges?
Not at the moment. Search your full model number on the site in case that changes, or send it through the contact page and we’ll give you an honest yes or no before you spend anything.
Take the model number from the sticker, search it on the site, or send it via the contact page and we’ll match it. In-stock hinges are dispatched from Sydney’s Northern Beaches the day you order when it’s in by 12pm Sydney time.
