Quick answer: F1 on a Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer means a flood fault — the moisture sensor in the base of the cabinet has detected water where it should never be, and the machine runs its drain pump continuously (often with a persistent beep) to protect your floor. The water got there from a leak, an overfill or a spill. The fix is to disconnect power, dry the base, and find the source before running the machine again. Common part-level sources are a double inlet valve not closing fully ($46.95) or a perished hose connection.

What the DishDrawer F1 code means
Every Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer has a moisture sensor in the base of the chassis, below the drawers. If water reaches the base pan — from a leaking hose, a weeping valve, an overfilled tub or simply a big spill when a drawer was opened mid-cycle — the sensor trips and the control raises F1. The machine then drives the drain pump continuously, and it will keep doing so until the base is dry, even if you switch it off and on again.
F1 does not name a failed part; it tells you water escaped. Your job is to find where it came from. DW60 freestanding models with a display use fault numbers for the same family of faults — and older DishDrawers without a display signal faults as LED flash counts, covered in our Fisher & Paykel dishwasher error codes guide.
Common causes of DishDrawer F1
| Cause | Likelihood | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| One-off spill — drawer opened mid-cycle, or heavy suds from wrong detergent | Common | Dry the base pan; use dishwasher detergent only — free |
| Blocked filter causing the tub to back up and slosh over | Common | Clean the filter plate and drain area — free |
| Inlet valve not closing fully — slow overfill weeping into the base | Moderate | Replace the double inlet valve — $46.95 |
| Perished hose, loose clamp or tub seal weeping | Moderate | Re-seat the clamp or replace the leaking hose/seal |
| Drawer seal worn — water escaping during wash | Less common | Replace the drawer lid/tub seal |
| Moisture sensor tripping with a dry base | Less common | Technician diagnosis recommended |
How to fix the DishDrawer F1 error — step by step
- Disconnect power at the wall. This stops the continuous drain pump and the beeping while you work.
- Turn off the water at the isolation tap under the sink.
- Remove the machine from its cavity (or slide it forward far enough to tilt). With a helper, tilt it carefully backwards over towels so the water in the base pan runs out. Some models have a drain point in the base — check before tilting.
- Dry the base pan completely with towels and let it air for an hour. The sensor must be dry before the machine will run normally.
- Find the source before reassembly. Look for mineral trails, rust spots or detergent residue tracks under the tubs — they point back to the leak. Check every hose clamp, the inlet valve at the rear, and the tub seals.
- Clean the filter plates in both drawers so a blocked drain cannot overflow the tub on the next run.
- Reconnect and test. Run a rinse programme and watch under the machine with a torch. A weeping valve or clamp will show itself within minutes — replace the failed part.
Important: Never dry the base and simply keep washing without finding the source. A slow leak always comes back — and the next time it may find the floor or the electronics instead of the sensor.

Frequently asked questions
My DishDrawer keeps beeping and the pump will not stop — is that F1?
Yes, that is the classic F1 behaviour. The flood response runs the drain pump continuously until the base pan is dry. Disconnect power, then drain and dry the base as described above.
Can I clear F1 by switching the machine off and on?
No. The code clears itself only when the moisture sensor in the base is dry. A power cycle with a wet base just restarts the pump and the beeping.
F1 came back a week after I dried the base — what does that mean?
A recurring F1 means a slow leak, not a spill — typically a hose clamp, the inlet valve or a tub seal. Run the machine pulled forward with a torch on the base until you catch the weep.
Does F1 mean the same thing on both drawers?
The moisture sensor is in the shared base of the chassis, so either drawer’s leak triggers the same F1 response for the whole machine.
