Quick answer: Westinghouse (with Dishlex, Simpson and Electrolux on the same platform) is the cheapest dishwasher to repair in Australia: drain pumps $18 to $33, inlet valves $19 to $23, and a huge shared parts catalogue. Omega and Euromaid are next: drain pumps $33 to $60, inlet valves $23 to $28, heating elements $24 to $34, on a Midea platform shared with several badges. Bosch costs more per part but is very well supported. Fisher & Paykel DishDrawers are the most expensive to repair, with specialised parts and a design that takes longer to open.

Dishwashers fail in a small number of places: the drain pump, the inlet valve, the heating element, the door seal and the float in the base. Which brand is cheapest to repair comes down to what those parts cost, how many of them exist for the brand, and how hard the machine is to open. Dishwashers are a smaller share of Australian repairs than washers and dryers, which makes parts availability matter more, because a brand with few parts listed leaves you with a service call.
This comparison ranks four brands common in Australian kitchens: Westinghouse (sharing the Electrolux platform with Dishlex and Simpson), Omega (sharing the Midea platform with Euromaid, Bellini and others), Bosch and Fisher & Paykel. The prices are ranges from the parts we currently stock. The verdicts are about repair cost and ease, not how often the machines fail or how well they wash.
Cheapest dishwasher to repair: the four brands compared
Codes are listed as they appear on the display. Where two generations of the platform use different codes for the same fault, both are shown. Always confirm against the manual for your exact model before ordering a part.
| Brand | Parts availability in Australia | Typical price of the part that fails most | Second most common repair | DIY difficulty | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Westinghouse (Dishlex, Simpson, Electrolux) | Very wide, shared across four badges and twenty years of models | Drain pump $18 to $33 | Inlet valve $19 to $23; door seal and hoses widely available | Easy: pump and valve are plinth-level jobs | Cheapest to repair. Shared platform, cheap parts, and the i-code system tells you which part it is |
Omega (Euromaid, Bellini, Inalto and other Midea badges) | Good and growing; parts interchange across the badges | Drain pump $33 to $60 | Inlet valve $23 to $28; heating element $24 to $34; door lock $65 to $70 | Easy to moderate | Second cheapest. Inexpensive parts, but fewer of them listed than the Electrolux platform — fit the Euromaid 4-Lug Dishwasher Water Drain Pump E14DWB E14DWX |
| Bosch | Very good for the SMS, SMU, SMV and Serie ranges | Drain pump $19 to $100 depending on generation | Heat pump and element assemblies at the higher end; door seals and filters mid-range | Moderate: some jobs need the machine out and on its back | More expensive per part but excellent support; every fault code has a part |
| Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer | Good for the DD60 and DD90 series but specialised | Inlet valve $17 to $47 | Element $33 to $38; lid seals and drawer parts specialised | Moderate to hard: the drawer design takes longer to strip | Most expensive to repair of the four; the F1 flood fault is a common and awkward one |
| What fails, all brands | From the Failure Index and our code guides | Drain pump and filter faults lead | Inlet valve, heating element, door seal, base float | Filter, pump and valve are DIY on every brand | Buy on drain pump price and how many parts are listed |
Why the shared platform wins
Westinghouse, Dishlex, Simpson and Electrolux dishwashers are the same machines under four badges, and that is exactly why they are cheap to repair. A drain pump made in the hundreds of thousands costs a fraction of one made for a single model. The same is true, a step up the price ladder, of the Midea platform under Omega, Euromaid and Bellini. If repair cost matters, buy a badge that sits on a big platform.
The three repairs that matter
The drain pump is the dishwasher repair most owners will do, because it collects glass and food and eventually jams or fails. On the Electrolux platform it is a plinth-level job at $18 to $33. The inlet valve is next, a plug-in part at about $20 to $25 on both big platforms. The heating element is the third, and here the Midea platform’s $24 to $34 element is notably cheap. Bosch and Fisher & Paykel are more expensive at each step, and the DishDrawer’s construction makes the work longer.
Where Bosch and Fisher & Paykel sit
Bosch dishwashers are not cheap to repair, but they are very well supported: the E-code on the display maps to a part that exists, and the machines are built to be serviced. Fisher & Paykel DishDrawers are a different design with a following of their own; parts exist for the current series, but the flood-sensing F1 fault is common and awkward, and the drawer mechanism takes longer to open than a conventional door.
What this does not tell you
This is a repair-cost comparison, not a ranking of wash quality, noise or reliability. Use it when a machine has failed and you are deciding whether to fix it, or when you are choosing between brands and want to know what the next ten years of small repairs will cost.

Is it safe to fix an error code yourself?
Most of the codes above are cleared with a filter clean, a hose check or a plug-in part swap, and those are ordinary DIY jobs: unplug the machine, photograph the wiring before you unplug anything, and never bypass a door lock or a thermal cut-out. Anything involving the sealed refrigerant circuit, gas, or a mains-side repair belongs with a licensed repairer.

Frequently asked questions
Which dishwasher brand is cheapest to repair in Australia?
Westinghouse and the other Electrolux-platform badges (Dishlex, Simpson, Electrolux): drain pumps $18 to $33, inlet valves $19 to $23, and a very wide shared parts catalogue.
Are Omega dishwashers cheap to repair?
Yes. Omega sits on the Midea platform shared with Euromaid and Bellini; drain pumps are $33 to $60, inlet valves $23 to $28 and heating elements $24 to $34.
Are Fisher & Paykel DishDrawers expensive to repair?
They are the most expensive of the four here: parts are specialised and the drawer design takes longer to strip. The F1 flood fault is the common one.
How were these repair costs worked out?
From the dishwasher parts we stock and ship in Australia: the price range of each brand’s common failure parts, how many of those parts exist for each brand, and how often each part category is bought across the year (published in our Australian Appliance Failure Index). Labour is not included; the comparison is about parts cost and how easy the repair is to do at home.
Does cheapest to repair mean most reliable?
No. This compares what it costs and how hard it is to fix the machine when it does fail. A brand can be inexpensive to repair and still fail often, or expensive to repair and rarely need it.
Are the prices here exact?
They are ranges from the parts currently listed, rounded, and they move with stock and exchange rates. Click through to the part for today’s price.
Should I repair or replace?
If the part is in the ranges here and the machine is under about ten years old, repair almost always wins: the median parts bill for a repair in Australia is around forty dollars against several hundred for a replacement plus delivery and disposal.
