What the LG UE code means
UE stands for Unbalanced Error. During the spin cycle, the LG machine constantly monitors drum vibration through the motor and hall sensors. If the vibration level is too high — because the load is lopsided — the machine decelerates, attempts to redistribute the load automatically by tumbling it slowly, and then tries to spin again. If three attempts fail, it stops and displays UE.
This is a protective feature. An unbalanced drum at high RPM creates violent vibration that can damage the drum bearings, crack the tub, or dislodge hoses and connections.

Step-by-step fix for LG UE
- Press Start/Pause and wait for the drum to stop before opening the door.
- Remove all the laundry, shake each item out and place it back in the drum loosely. Make sure nothing is wrapped around the drum paddles.
- Check load size. A single heavy item in an otherwise empty drum will trigger UE almost every time — add 1–2 similar items as ballast.
- Restart on a spin-only cycle to complete the wash without redoing the whole programme.
- Level the machine. If UE comes back across different loads, place a spirit level on the top of the machine. Adjust the levelling feet until all four corners are in contact with the floor and the bubble sits central. Tighten the locknuts to stop the feet vibrating loose.
- Test the shock absorbers. Remove the lower front panel. Press down firmly on each shock absorber rod — a healthy damper gives firm, progressive resistance. A worn one offers little or no resistance and collapses with almost no force. Replace in pairs.
Tip: LG machines are particularly sensitive to washing a single bed sheet. It picks up water weight and wraps around the drum paddles into a tight ball. Wash bed sheets with a second sheet or a couple of towels to keep the load even.

How to replace LG washing machine shock absorbers (about 30 minutes)
- Unplug the machine and pull it forward from the wall.
- Remove the lower front panel — typically 2–4 screws or snap-in clips — to expose the shock absorbers.
- Photograph the shock absorber mounting before removing anything.
- Press the retaining tab on the upper mounting pin with a flat-blade screwdriver and pull the pin out. Repeat for the lower mounting pin.
- Fit the new shock absorbers — press the pins through the brackets until they click and the tab locks.
- Refit the lower front panel.
- Run a spin-only cycle empty to confirm smooth, quiet operation before doing a full wash load.

Yes — worn shock absorbers allow the drum to oscillate much more than intended, triggering the vibration sensor on even well-balanced loads. Press each damper rod firmly by hand; if it collapses easily with little resistance, it is worn out.
My new LG is showing UE — is there a defect?
On a new machine, UE is almost always a loading issue or an installation issue (transit bolts still fitted). Check that all transit bolts have been removed from the rear panel — they are usually red or yellow plastic inserts. Leaving them in causes severe unbalance vibration.
