Quick answer: Miele dishwasher fault codes are F-numbers. The ones owners see most are F11 (water not draining: filter, drain pump or hose), F12 and F13 (water not coming in: tap, hose or inlet valve), F14 and F51 (heater pressure switch, usually a blocked circulation path), F24 to F26 (heating faults), F70 (water in the base) and F84 and F85 (spray arm switching). Clean the filters and check the tap first; a code that returns points at the part in the table.

A Miele dishwasher tells you exactly what went wrong. Every G-series machine, from the older G 1000 and G 2000 models to the current G 5000 and G 7000 ranges, runs checks on fill, drain, heating, water pressure and the spray-arm diverter, and stops with an F-code the moment one fails. On older machines without a text display the code shows as a pattern of flashing indicator lights that the manual decodes; on newer ones the F-number is written out.
This guide lists the documented Miele dishwasher fault codes, what each means in plain English, the most likely cause in an Australian kitchen and what to do about it. Most codes come back to five things: the filter, the drain path, the water supply, the heater pressure switch and the float in the base. Only a handful are genuine electronics faults.
Miele dishwasher error codes: quick-reference table
Codes are listed as they appear on the display. Where two generations of the platform use different codes for the same fault, both are shown. Always confirm against the manual for your exact model before ordering a part.
| Code | What it means | Most likely cause | What to do / the part |
|---|---|---|---|
| F11 | Drain fault: water not pumped out in the allowed time | Blocked filter or sump, food debris in the drain pump impeller, kinked drain hose, drain pump failed | Remove and clean the triple filter, check the impeller for debris, straighten the hose; replace the drain pump if it hums without pumping |
F12 | Water intake fault at the start of the program | Tap off, inlet hose kinked, inlet screen blocked, inlet valve failed | Open the tap fully, check and clean the hose screen; if it still will not fill, replace the inlet valve — fit the Dishwasher Aquastop Water Inlet Hose Smeg Omega DWA Series 0331 |
F13 | Water intake fault during the program | As F12, or low water pressure mid-cycle | Same checks as F12; low pressure from a shared supply can also cause it — fit the Dishwasher Aquastop Water Inlet Hose Blanco Omega Bellini 0331 |
| F14 | Water intake: heater pressure switch not activated | Circulation pump not building pressure: blocked filters, low water level, air lock, circulation pump fault | Clean the filters, run the machine empty on a hot program; if it returns the circulation pump or the pressure switch is at fault |
| F15 | Water intake: hot water fault (hot-fill models) | Hot tap off or restricted | Check the hot tap and hose |
F18 / F19 | Flow meter fault: wrong quantity of water (F18) or no pulses from the flow meter (F19) | Blocked inlet screen, very low pressure, flow meter failed | Clean the screen and check pressure; a flow meter that no longer counts is a service part — fit the ELECTROLUX DISHLEX WESTINGHOUSE DISHWASHER INLET VALVE 0172 |
| F24 | Heater relay contact fault | Heater relay on the electronic unit welded or open | Service repair on the electronic unit |
F25 | Target temperature not reached | Flow-through heater failed, temperature sensor out of range, heater relay | Check the heater for continuity; replace the heater or the NTC sensor — fit the Fisher Paykel Dishwasher Heating Element DW60CDW2, DW60CDX2, DW60CE |
| F26 | Boiling protection: water too hot | Temperature sensor reading wrong, heater relay stuck on | Replace the temperature sensor; if the heater runs constantly the relay on the board has failed |
| F40 / F42 | Electronic unit fault (F40), mains frequency or voltage fault (F42) | Board fault, or a supply problem such as a generator or bad connection | Power off at the wall for a minute and retry; check the supply; a persistent F40 is a board repair |
| F47 | Interface (communication) fault between modules | Loose or damp connector, module failure | Power-cycle; check connectors; service if it returns |
| F51 | Heater pressure switch fault | Pressure switch not switching, circulation path blocked | Clean filters; replace the pressure switch if the circulation pump runs normally |
| F52 | Heater pressure switch dropped out during heating | Water level fell during heating: leak, or foam from the wrong detergent | Check for a leak and use only dishwasher detergent |
| F53 | Circulation pump speed sensor fault | Sensor on the circulation pump motor failed or blocked pump | Free the pump; replace the sensor or pump |
| F63 | Water path (diverter) fault | Water switching unit not reaching position | Service part; a power-cycle occasionally frees it |
| F67 / F68 / F69 | Circulation pump speed too low (F67), pump running when it should not (F68), pump blocked or drive fault (F69) | Debris in the circulation pump, pump motor or its electronics | Clear glass fragments and debris from the sump; if the pump still will not run freely it needs replacing |
| F70 | Float switch activated: water in the base | Leak from a hose, the door seal, the sump seal or overfilling | Unplug, tilt the machine to empty the base, find and fix the leak before restarting |
| F78 | Circulation pump electronics fault | Pump control module | Power-cycle; service if persistent |
| F84 / F85 | Spray arm switching (diverter) positioning fault (F84) or sensor fault (F85) | Diverter motor or its position sensor, debris in the diverter | Remove debris from the sump area; a diverter that cannot find its position is replaced as a unit |
| F88 | Turbidity sensor fault | Sensor dirty or failed | Clean the sensor window in the sump; replace if it still faults |
| F96 / F98 / F99 | Technical fault: electronics or software | Electronic unit | Power off at the wall for a minute; if it returns it is a service repair |
Reading the code on a Miele dishwasher without a display
Older Miele dishwashers show faults as a combination of flashing lights on the program panel, and the sequence maps to an F-number in the manual. On many G 1000 and G 2000 machines the Intake/Drain light flashing means F11, F12 or F13, while the Rinse and Dry lights together mean a heating fault. If you do not have the manual, note which lights flash and how many times, and match it against the table above by symptom: no water is F12, water left in the base is F11, cold dishes are F25.
F11, F12 and F14: fix the filters before you buy anything
Three codes account for most Miele dishwasher faults and all three start with the filters. F11 means the water did not drain: lift out the triple filter, clean the fine mesh, then reach into the sump and clear the drain pump impeller of glass and food. F12 means no water arrived: check the tap, then the screen in the inlet hose. F14 is the one that catches people out: it says water intake, but it is really the circulation pump failing to build pressure, and in most homes that is a filter so blocked the pump is starving. Clean the filters, run a hot program empty, and F14 usually disappears.
F25, F70 and F84: the codes that need a part
F25 is a heating fault. On modern Miele machines the heater is a flow-through element on the circulation pump and it fails open-circuit; it is tested with a multimeter and replaced as an assembly. F70 is the float switch in the base, which only trips when water has escaped: the usual sources are the door seal, the inlet hose connection and the sump seal, and the machine will not run again until the base is dry. F84 and F85 are the diverter that alternates water between the upper and lower spray arms; debris in the sump jams it and it is replaced as a unit when it can no longer find its home position.

Is it safe to fix an error code yourself?
Most of the codes above are cleared with a filter clean, a hose check or a plug-in part swap, and those are ordinary DIY jobs: unplug the machine, photograph the wiring before you unplug anything, and never bypass a door lock or a thermal cut-out. Anything involving the sealed refrigerant circuit, gas, or a mains-side repair belongs with a licensed repairer.
Frequently asked questions
How do I reset a Miele dishwasher fault code?
Switch the machine off at its own button, turn it off at the wall for one minute, then restart the program. If the code returns as soon as the machine reaches the same step, the fault is real and needs the check or part in the table above.
What does F11 mean on a Miele dishwasher?
F11 is a drain fault. Clean the triple filter, clear the drain pump impeller of glass and food, straighten the drain hose and run a program. If the pump hums but does not move water after that, the drain pump has failed.
What is F14 on a Miele dishwasher?
F14 says water intake, but it means the circulation pump did not build enough pressure to trip the heater pressure switch. Blocked filters are the usual cause; clean them and run a hot program empty.
My Miele dishwasher shows F70. Is it safe to keep using it?
No. F70 means water has collected in the base under the machine. Unplug it, tilt it to empty the base, and find the leak (door seal, inlet connection or sump) before running it again.
Why are my dishes cold with an F25 code?
F25 means the target temperature was not reached. The flow-through heater on the circulation pump or the temperature sensor has failed; the heater is checked for continuity and replaced as an assembly.
Where is the model number on a Miele dishwasher?
Open the door and look at the sticker on the edge of the door or the side of the tub; the model is a G-number such as G 5210 SC or G 7100 SCi. Use it to match parts or run it through our Part Finder.
