Quick answer: Panasonic washing machines show U-codes for things you can fix and H-codes for faults that usually need a part or a service call. U11 is water not draining (filter, hose or drain pump), U12 the lid or door open, U13 an unbalanced load that cannot spin, U14 water not filling (tap, hose, screen or inlet valve). H01 is a water level sensor fault, H23 the heater relay, H27 the door lock, H29 the board cooling fan, H35 an electrical fault and H57 a motor fault. Check the filter, tap and lid first; an H-code that returns after a restart names the part.

Panasonic washing machines make a useful distinction other brands do not: U-codes are user faults, the things you check yourself, and H-codes are hardware faults. A U11 is telling you to clean the filter; an H57 is telling you the motor has a problem. That split saves a lot of guessing, because nearly every code an owner sees is a U-code.
This guide covers the Panasonic NA-series front loaders and top loaders sold in Australia, including the NA-V, NA-S, NA-140, NA-127 and NA-F top-load models. For each code you get the plain meaning, the likely cause and the part or check that clears it. The four U-codes are covered in detail because they are almost the whole story.
Panasonic washing machine error codes: quick-reference table
Codes are listed as they appear on the display. Where two generations of the platform use different codes for the same fault, both are shown. Always confirm against the manual for your exact model before ordering a part.
| Code | What it means | Most likely cause | What to do / the part |
|---|---|---|---|
U11 | Water not draining | Blocked pump filter, drain hose kinked or too high, drain pump failed | Drain the machine, clean the pump filter (front bottom on front loaders), straighten the hose; replace the drain pump if it hums without pumping — fit the Panasonic Washing Machine Drain Pump NA-127VB3WAU NA127VB3WAU |
U12 | Lid or door not closed | Lid open, item trapped, lid switch or door lock failed | Close firmly and restart; replace the switch or lock if it repeats with the lid shut — fit the Panasonic Washing Machine Door lock Switch NA-V10FR1WAU NA-V95FR1WAU NA-V95FC1 |
| U13 | Unbalanced load: spin not possible | Single heavy item, load bunched, machine not level | Redistribute the load and level the feet |
| U14 | Water not filling | Tap off, hose kinked, inlet screen blocked, inlet valve failed | Open the tap, clean the screen; replace the inlet valve if it still will not fill |
| U15 / U18 (washer-dryers) | Drying or air-dry not possible | Filter or airflow, program conflict | Clean the filter; check the program |
| H01 | Water level sensor fault | Blocked pressure hose, sensor failed | Clear the hose; replace the level sensor |
| H21 / H23 | Heater or heater relay fault | Heating element, relay on the board | Test the element; board repair if the element is fine |
| H25 | Water inlet valve fault | Valve coil open or shorted | Replace the inlet valve |
| H27 | Door lock cannot engage | Door lock failed, catch misaligned | Replace the door lock |
| H29 | Board cooling fan speed too low | Fan on the main board blocked or failed | Clear lint from the fan; board service if it repeats |
| H35 | Electrical fault: board or wiring | Board, connector | Power off at the wall for a minute; service if it repeats |
| H41 / H43 | Sensor or board communication fault | Board | Power-cycle; service if it repeats |
| H51 / H57 / H59 | Motor or motor drive fault | Motor, inverter, wiring | Check the drum turns freely; service for inverter faults |
| H97 / H99 | Motor drive or software fault | Inverter board | Power-cycle; service if it repeats |
U11: the filter, then the pump
U11 is the code Panasonic owners see most. On front loaders the pump filter is behind the small door at the bottom front; drain through the emergency hose beside it, unscrew the filter and clear coins and lint, and check the impeller behind it turns freely. On top loaders the drain hose and the pump outlet collect lint. Straighten the hose and keep its outlet under about a metre. A pump that hums without moving water after that is replaced.
U12, U13, U14: lid, balance, tap
U12 means the lid or door is not registering closed: close firmly, clear anything trapped, and if it repeats the lid switch or door lock has failed. U13 is the machine refusing a spin it cannot control: redistribute the load and level the feet. U14 is the tap, the hose and the screen in the hose end, and the inlet valve only when those are clear.
When an H-code appears
H-codes are hardware. H01 is the water level sensor and its hose, which clogs with sludge; H27 is the door lock; H25 the inlet valve; H23 the heater relay, which usually means testing the element first. The motor and inverter codes (H51, H57, H59, H97) are worth one power-cycle and a check that the drum turns freely by hand, but if they return they are a service repair.

Is it safe to fix an error code yourself?
Most of the codes above are cleared with a filter clean, a hose check or a plug-in part swap, and those are ordinary DIY jobs: unplug the machine, photograph the wiring before you unplug anything, and never bypass a door lock or a thermal cut-out. Anything involving the sealed refrigerant circuit, gas, or a mains-side repair belongs with a licensed repairer.
Frequently asked questions
How do I reset a Panasonic washing machine error code?
Switch the machine off, turn it off at the wall for one minute, then restart the program. A code that returns as soon as the machine reaches the same step is a real fault and needs the check or part in the table.
What does U11 mean on a Panasonic washing machine?
The water did not drain. Clean the pump filter, straighten the drain hose and run a drain and spin; replace the drain pump if it hums without moving water.
What does U14 mean?
No water came in. Open the tap fully, straighten the inlet hose and clean its screen; replace the inlet valve if it still will not fill.
What is U13 on a Panasonic washer?
The load is unbalanced and the machine will not spin. Redistribute the washing and level the feet.
What does H27 mean on a Panasonic washing machine?
The door lock cannot engage. Check the door closes squarely; replace the door lock if the code returns.
Where is the model number on a Panasonic washing machine?
Open the lid or door and look at the sticker on the frame, or on the back panel. The model reads like NA-V90FX1 or NA-F70S10. Use it to match parts or run it through our Part Finder.
