Quick answer: Hoover and Candy washing machines share one control platform and one E-code list. E01 is the door lock, E02 water not filling, E03 water not draining, E04 overfill (anti-flood), E05 the temperature sensor, E07 and E08 the motor speed sensor, E09 the motor control, E11 and E12 washer-dryer heater faults, E13 and E14 the control board, E16 the heater insulation and E18 the board. Clean the filter and check the tap and hoses; a code that returns after a restart names the part.

Hoover and Candy washing machines are the same machine under two badges, and their fault codes are identical. The board checks the door lock, the fill, the drain, the water level, the heater and the motor on every cycle and stops with an E-code when a check fails. On models without a digital display the code is shown by counting flashes of a program light, with a pause between groups.
This guide covers the Hoover and Candy front loaders and washer-dryers sold in Australia, including the Dynamic, H-Wash, Grand’O Vita and Smart ranges. For each code you get the plain meaning, the likely cause and the part or check that clears it. The most common three are E03 (a coin in the pump filter), E02 (a tap not fully open) and E01 (a door lock), and all three are quick fixes.
Hoover washing machine error codes: quick-reference table
Codes are listed as they appear on the display. Where two generations of the platform use different codes for the same fault, both are shown. Always confirm against the manual for your exact model before ordering a part.

| Flashing lights, no code | Fault shown as flash count on non-display models | Count the flashes between pauses | Match the count to the E-number above |
Counting the flashes on a Hoover or Candy without a display
Models with only lights show the code by flashing one of the program indicators in groups: three flashes, pause, three flashes means E03. Watch for a full cycle of flashes before you decide the number. Once you have it, the table above applies exactly as it does to a display model.
E03 and E02: the filter and the tap
E03 is the most common Hoover or Candy code and in most laundries it is a coin. Drain the machine through the emergency hose behind the kick panel, unscrew the filter and clear it, check the drain hose is not kinked or pushed too far into the standpipe, and run a drain and spin. Only a pump that hums without moving water after that is finished. E02 is the same rule on the way in: open the tap fully, straighten the hose and clean the screen in the hose end before suspecting the inlet valve.
E01 and E16: the lock and the heater
E01 is the door lock. Close the door with a firm push and make sure nothing is caught in the seal; if the code returns every time with the door shut, the lock has failed and is replaced behind the seal clamp in about twenty minutes. E16 is more serious: the heating element is leaking to earth, which is why it often arrives with a tripped safety switch. Replace the element; do not keep resetting the switch.

Is it safe to fix an error code yourself?
Most of the codes above are cleared with a filter clean, a hose check or a plug-in part swap, and those are ordinary DIY jobs: unplug the machine, photograph the wiring before you unplug anything, and never bypass a door lock or a thermal cut-out. Anything involving the sealed refrigerant circuit, gas, or a mains-side repair belongs with a licensed repairer.
Frequently asked questions
How do I reset a Hoover or Candy washing machine error code?
Switch the machine off, turn it off at the wall for one minute, then restart the program. A code that returns as soon as the machine reaches the same step is a real fault and needs the check or part in the table.
What does E03 mean on a Hoover washing machine?
The water did not drain in time. Clean the pump filter, check the drain hose and run a drain and spin; replace the drain pump if it hums without moving water.
What does E01 mean on a Candy washing machine?
A door lock fault. Close the door firmly and clear the seal; if E01 returns with the door shut, replace the door lock.
What is E02 on a Hoover or Candy?
Water did not fill in time. Open the tap fully, straighten the inlet hose and clean its screen; replace the inlet valve if it still will not fill.
Why does my Candy trip the safety switch with E16?
E16 means the heating element is leaking to earth. Replace the element rather than resetting the switch repeatedly.
Where is the model number on a Hoover or Candy washing machine?
Open the door and look at the sticker inside the door rim or on the frame behind the door. The model reads like DXOA 49C3 or CS 1482DE. Use it to match parts or run it through our Part Finder.
