Quick answer: AEG washing machines use the Electrolux E-code system. E10 and E11 mean the machine cannot fill (tap, hose, screen or inlet valve), E13 a leak, E20, E21, E23 and E24 mean it cannot drain (filter, hose or drain pump), E30-family codes are the pressure sensor, E40 to E45 the door and its lock, E50 to E54 the motor, E60 to E66 the heater, E90 to E95 the electronics, EF0 to EF5 foam or unbalance and EH0 the power supply. Clean the filter and check the tap; a code that returns after a restart names the part.

AEG washing machines are built on the Electrolux platform, so their codes are the same family Westinghouse, Simpson and Electrolux owners see in Australia: E10 for filling, E20 for draining, E40 for the door, E50 for the motor, E60 for heating. The first digit names the system; the second narrows it. On models without a full display the codes show as C-numbers or as beeps and flashes, with C1 meaning E10 and C2 meaning E20.
This guide covers the AEG L-series front loaders and washer-dryers sold in Australia, including the 6000, 7000, 8000 and 9000 series and the older Lavamat machines. For each code you get the plain meaning, the likely cause and the part or check that clears it. Most AEG codes are a filter, a tap or a door, and the parts behind the rest are shared with the whole Electrolux range.
AEG washing machine error codes: quick-reference table
Codes are listed as they appear on the display. Where two generations of the platform use different codes for the same fault, both are shown. Always confirm against the manual for your exact model before ordering a part.

Which AEG codes clear with a restart
Switch the machine off, turn it off at the wall for one minute, and restart. E40 clears once the door is shut properly, EF0 once the foam is gone, EF2 once the load is redistributed, and the EH codes once the supply is stable. E10, E20, E60 and the E50 codes return the moment the machine reaches the same step, because the valve, pump, heater or motor is still faulty.
E20: the coin in the filter
E20 is the most common AEG code and it is almost always the pump filter. Drain through the emergency hose behind the kick panel, unscrew the filter and clear coins and lint, check the impeller behind it turns freely, and straighten the drain hose. A pump that hums without moving water after that is replaced, and it is a plug-in part.
E40 to E45: the door
A door that has not clicked shut, or a corner of laundry under the seal lip, gives E40 or E41. Close firmly and clear the seal. E42 to E45 with the door firmly shut mean the lock has failed, and the door lock is replaced behind the seal clamp in about twenty minutes. A front loader keeps its door locked while there is water in it, so drain first if the door will not open.

Is it safe to fix an error code yourself?
Most of the codes above are cleared with a filter clean, a hose check or a plug-in part swap, and those are ordinary DIY jobs: unplug the machine, photograph the wiring before you unplug anything, and never bypass a door lock or a thermal cut-out. Anything involving the sealed refrigerant circuit, gas, or a mains-side repair belongs with a licensed repairer.
Frequently asked questions
How do I reset a AEG washing machine error code?
Switch the machine off, turn it off at the wall for one minute, then restart the program. A code that returns as soon as the machine reaches the same step is a real fault and needs the check or part in the table.
What does E20 mean on an AEG washing machine?
The water did not drain in time. Clean the pump filter, check the drain hose, and replace the drain pump if it hums without moving water.
What does E10 mean on an AEG?
No water came in. Open the tap fully, straighten the inlet hose and clean its screen; replace the inlet valve if it still will not fill.
What is E40 on an AEG washing machine?
The door is not closed or not locked. Close firmly and clear the seal; if E42 to E45 appear with the door shut, replace the door lock.
What does EF0 mean?
Excess foam or a leak warning. Run a rinse with no detergent and use less; check for water under the machine.
Where is the model number on a AEG washing machine?
Open the door and look at the sticker inside the door rim. The model reads like L7FEE842 or L8WEC166R. Use it to match parts or run it through our Part Finder.
