Fitting it yourself
Isolate at the wall before a panel comes off, every time. The sealed refrigerant circuit is not a home job — never open or pierce it, and leave hard-wired 240V work to a licensed person. Never bypass a door interlock, and fit a control board only after a diagnosis.
- Door lock switch — easiest. Door surround off, switch unclips, two connectors swap over. An hour, with photos as you go.
- Door seal gasket — easy but fiddly. Work the old lip out, then seat the new one evenly all the way round before pressing it home.
- Drum drive belt — a solid first repair. Panels off, drum supported, belt over the drum and around the motor pulley. Photograph the routing first.
- Drain or condensate pump — moderate. Low panel off, hose clamps, a few screws and a plug. Have towels ready.
- Drum bearing — the hard one. A full strip with the drum out; set aside a day if it is your first. If the belt has gone on a machine that is also grumbling, do both in one teardown.
If the fault points at the heat pump itself or the control board, call a repairer instead.
