An Omega dishwasher showing E4 has done exactly what it was designed to do. In the base of the machine, under the tub, is a shallow tray with a polystyrene float. If water collects in that tray the float rises, trips a switch, and the control board stops the program and shows E4. On many models it also runs the drain pump continuously and beeps, which is why E4 often arrives with a puddle and a noise.
E4 is the most searched Omega dishwasher code in Australia, and it is also the one owners most often try to clear by pressing buttons. That never works, because the switch stays tripped until the base is dry. This guide takes the fault in the right order: make the machine safe, empty the base, find where the water came from, fix that, and only then restart. First: make it safe and empty the base
Switch the dishwasher off and unplug it, or turn it off at the isolator if it is hard-wired. Turn off the tap. Pull the machine out far enough to tilt it, put towels down, and lean it back until the water in the base runs out. Leave the door open for an hour so the tray can dry. Do not run it again yet. If you power it up now, the float is still up and the pump will just run again.

Most E4 faults are the door seal or a hose connection, and both show themselves once you look. Run your fingers around the tub gasket and feel for splits and hard corners; look for a tide mark on the floor at the front of the machine. Check both ends of the inlet hose with the tap on and the machine off. If the seal and hoses are dry and the machine overfills instead, turn the tap off and watch: a machine that keeps filling with the tap off has an inlet valve that is not closing.
E4 with a dry base
Occasionally the tray is dry and E4 still shows. Then the float is stuck up on a piece of debris or the switch has failed closed. With the machine unplugged, remove the kick panel, find the float in the tray and make sure it drops freely. Clean the tray. If E4 returns with everything dry, replace the float switch.

Is it safe to fix an error code yourself?
Most of the codes above are cleared with a filter clean, a hose check or a plug-in part swap, and those are ordinary DIY jobs: unplug the machine, photograph the wiring before you unplug anything, and never bypass a door lock or a thermal cut-out.
