Quick answer: Whether your Stirling dryer can even show an error code depends on which Aldi machine you have. Which Stirling dryers show error codes
Stirling is Aldi’s appliance house brand, and the dryers span nearly a decade of Special Buys — so the fault display varies wildly by year. The honest family map:

- STR-CD8C condenser — despite the 8 in the code it’s a 7kg machine, with a digital display showing E30, E32 and E33 plus filter and container symbols.
- STR-VD8W vented (2024) — displays END when finished, and DOP, E1 or E2 when something’s wrong.
- SVD7 vented — no screen. Its faults are flashing dryness-level LEDs, which the importer’s own guide labels E1, E2 and E3 (decoded below).
- No codes at all, by design — MDR70-VR031 (7kg vented, the SVD7’s sibling platform), STR-CD50 (5kg), STR-CD70W (7kg vented), and the dial-timer models GYJ40-88 (4kg), GYJ45-68 (4.5kg) and GYJ70-78F3E (6.5kg). E32 and E33: the heat pump sensor codes
E32 is the humidity sensor and E33 the temperature sensor, and the importer’s own troubleshooting for the SHPD7 and SHPD80W/S is refreshingly specific. Switch off at the power point before you start.
- For E32: open the door and find the metal sensor strip on the drum side of the in-door filter housing. Wipe it clean — lint film and fabric-softener residue on that strip is the classic false “sensor failure”.
- Clean the lint filter itself while you’re there.
- Turn the dryer off at the power point for 60 seconds, then back on and restart the program.
- If the code returns, book a technician — on these models the sensors aren’t sold as user-fit parts.
The tank-full alert (FULL on the SHPD7, a water-cup symbol on the 8kg pair) is a chore, not a fault: empty the tank, push it fully home and press Start/Pause. SHPD7: when Child Lock lights up with a time LED
The SHPD7 has a second fault language that catches everyone: the Child Lock indicator lighting together with a delay-time LED. That’s not the child lock misbehaving — it’s the fault display. With 9h it’s the temperature sensor, with 6h the humidity sensor, and with 3h the heater. All three route to service in the manual, but do the free pass first: clean the filter and sensor strip, power off 15 minutes, retry. The machine will also sound a continuous series of beeps when it’s showing one of these — that’s by design, not a new fault.
DOP and door trouble
DOP on the STR-VD8W means the door isn’t detected as closed — either it’s genuinely ajar or the door lock has failed. Close it with a firm push until it clicks. No code, no heat: the reset buttons everyone forgets
Most Stirling vented dryers protect themselves with a thermal cut-out rather than a code, and the manuals are explicit about where the reset lives:
- STR-VD8W and STR-CD70W — not heating? Press the RESET button at the back of the unit.
- MDR70-VR031 and SVD7 — a safety cut-out switch on the back panel kills power if the machine overheats. Unplug, let it cool, reset it at the back panel.
- STR-CD50 — its cut-out resets itself once the machine cools; if it stopped mid-load and restarts later, that’s what happened.
A cut-out that trips repeatedly is telling you about airflow: clean the lint and exhaust filter, check the filter grille outlet isn’t packed solid, and give the machine room to breathe — a vented dryer face-down in a cupboard will trip its cut-out all winter. The dial models: symptom beats code
The GYJ40-88, GYJ45-68 and GYJ70-78F3E (officially 6.5kg, not 7) have no display and no codes — and their manuals’ own troubleshooting is a symptom table. The three failures that actually happen, and their parts:

Lights that aren’t faults
- Filter light after a cycle (STR-VD8W, STR-CD70W) — routine reminder to clean the lint filter.
- END on the display with six beeps — the cycle finished. Not a fault.
- Container / filter symbols (STR-CD8C) — empty the container, clean the filter after the dryer stops. A container light that stays on after emptying = service.
- End light soon after starting (STR-CD70W) — the load was too small or already dry; the sensor gave it nothing to do.
- Full LED mid-cycle (SHPD7) — the program pauses for a full tank; empty it and press Start/Pause.

My Stirling SVD7 is flashing its dryness lights. Which fault is it?
The flashing dryness-level LED is the code. Light flashing alone means the dryer overheated internally — unplug it, reduce the load, clean the lint filter and check ventilation. Light and Standard together, or Extra alone, mean a temperature sensor error: unplug for 15 minutes, retry, and book service if it returns.
What does E32 mean on an Aldi Stirling heat pump dryer?

What does DOP mean on a Stirling dryer?
