Which LG dryers show error codes
AU-market LG dryers all have a digital panel that shows short alphanumeric codes. What differs is which codes each family can show:
- Heat pump models — Series 5 (DVH5-08/09) and Series 9 (DVH9-09/10). These collect condensate in a tank and have no exhaust duct, so the Flow Sense duct codes D80/D90/D95 never appear on them. - Condenser models — the older TD-C70212E. Also tank-based with no duct, so no Flow Sense codes. It heats with an element, not a compressor, and has its own drain code, E13.
- Vented models — the TDV10 family. These exhaust through a duct and are the only LG dryers that show the D80/D90/D95 Flow Sense warnings.
Two more things before you diagnose. CL (child lock) and PF (power failure) are informational, not faults. dE: door not detected as closed
dE (and dE4) means the dryer can’t confirm the door is shut and latched, so it refuses to start. It appears across all three families. The LG quirk: a lint filter that isn’t pushed fully home can hold the door fractionally ajar, and that alone triggers the code. Switch off at the wall before going past the basic checks.
- Re-close the door firmly until you hear it click.
- Push the lint filter fully home — it should sit flush, not proud of its slot.
- Check nothing is caught in the door seal — a sock or sheet corner is a classic.
- Unplug for one minute, restore power and restart.

- Remove some laundry and restart — a heavy, tangled load can trip LE1 on its own.
- Unplug for one minute and retry.
- Rotate the drum by hand — listen for scraping, feel for even resistance all the way around.
- Check the drum edge for jammed objects wedged between drum and housing.

tE1, tE2, tE3 and tE4: temperature sensor errors
The tE family means the thermistor — the temperature sensor — is reading out of range. All AU LG dryers can show these. tE1 and tE3 are the general codes; tE2 typically means the sensor reads too low, which happens in cold conditions; tE4 usually needs service. Lint is a common trigger: a clogged filter or heat exchanger makes the air temperature abnormal even when the sensor is fine.
- Clean the lint filter — on heat pump models, the secondary filter and heat exchanger too.
- For tE2 on vented models, check the outdoor vent flap closes; cold air flowing back in chills the sensor. A short Normal cycle warms a very cold machine.

Codes that aren’t faults
A large share of “LG dryer error” searches are for displays that aren’t errors at all — the dryer is telling you about a setting or a routine chore:
- CL — Child Lock. The panel is locked, not faulty — easily the most common “my LG dryer’s buttons stopped working” cause. Hold the Child Lock button for about three to five seconds to release it.
- PF — Power Failure. The mains supply was interrupted mid-cycle — blackout, tripped breaker, flicked wall switch. A flag, not a component fault. Restart; if PF won’t clear, do the standard factory reset (unplug, hold Start/Pause about five seconds, restore power).
- Empty Water Container (water-drop symbol). On heat pump and condenser models, the condensate tank is full and the dryer pauses until it’s emptied. D80, D90 and D95: LG Flow Sense duct warnings
D80, D85, D90 and D95 appear only on vented LG dryers (the TDV10 family). They never appear on heat pump or condenser models — those machines have no exhaust duct to monitor, so a Series 5 or Series 9 heat pump dryer simply cannot show a Flow Sense code.
The number is the message: Flow Sense estimates the exhaust duct is roughly 80, 85, 90 or 95 per cent blocked. No part has died — but don’t file it under “ignore”. A heavily restricted duct traps hot, lint-laden air, and lint burns: a restricted exhaust is a fire risk, so treat D90 or D95 as an act-now warning, not a someday job.
