Quick answer: A Bosch washing machine drum bearings (bearing kit) let the drum spin smoothly on its shaft without water reaching the motor side. The first sign of failure is usually this: a rumble like a jet taking off on spin, louder every week. Replacement drum bearings and seals for Bosch washing machines run about $40–70; a bearing kit is modest; the labour is the cost. Match the full model number on your Bosch sticker (WAE18061AU, WAE18061AU/01, WAE18061AU/02, WAE18061AU/21 and more) against the listing title before you order.

What the drum bearings does on a Bosch washing machine
The drum bearings let the drum spin smoothly on its shaft without water reaching the motor side. On Bosch washing machines sold in Australia the same part is shared across model families, which is why one listing covers several model numbers, and why two drum bearings and seals that look alike are not interchangeable: the mounting, the plug and the signal differ between families. The full model number on your sticker settles it.
Pull the plug and turn off the taps. The tub and counterweights are heavy; get help lifting.
Symptoms of a failed Bosch drum bearings
| What you see | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| A rumble like a jet taking off on spin, louder every week | The bearings have worn; water has got past the seal |
| Grey or rusty marks on the back of the drum, or a rust stain under the machine | The water seal has failed and the bearing is corroding |
| Play when you lift the drum by the rim with the door open | Bearing wear; a healthy drum has no vertical play |
| Grinding or squealing that follows drum speed | Same, later |
Is it really the drum bearings?
Suspension and bearings both make noise on spin. Press the drum down and let it go: bouncing is suspension. Lift the drum rim: play and a rumble are bearings. A bearing job on a machine with a sealed outer tub is a big one; the listing says whether yours has a split tub.
Where is the model sticker on a Bosch washing machine
Inside the door rim with the door open, behind the service flap at the lower front, or in the detergent drawer recess. Write the full code down, letters and numbers, or photograph it: the suffix matters, and the badge on the front of the machine is not enough. Our Bosch model number guide has photos of each spot.
Which Bosch drum bearings is listed for your model
One row per model number as it appears on the sticker. The part column is the listing title, which names every model that listing covers.

Replacing the drum bearings: the job in order
- Pull the plug and turn off the taps. This is a strip-down: top, front and back panels, the door seal, the counterweights, the motor and the outer tub come out.
- Split the tub, press the drum shaft out, and drive the old bearings and seal from the tub half.
- Clean the housing, press the new bearings in square, install the new seal with the grease supplied, and reassemble in reverse.
- Reinstall the seal and the belt, and run a spin before you reinstall the panels.
DIY or a repairer?
For most people this is a DIY job: a bearing kit is modest; the labour is the cost. A repairer’s call-out in Australia is in the $100–165 band before the part, so the saving is the labour. Use a licensed repairer if the appliance is hard-wired, if you find burnt or melted wiring, if gas or sealed refrigerant is involved, or if the new part does not cure the fault, because the next suspect is usually the control board and that is fitted after diagnosis, not before.
Frequently asked questions
Is a bearing change worth it, or should I replace the machine?
On a machine with a split outer tub, a bearing kit plus a long afternoon keeps the machine for years. On a sealed-tub machine the whole tub has to be replaced and the sums change. The listing title tells you which type you have; if you are unsure, send us the full model number before you order.
How do I know the tub splits?
Look at the join around the outer tub for screws or clips. A smooth welded seam is a sealed tub.
Do I need a repairer?
This is the biggest DIY job on a washer. Confident DIYers do it; anyone else should get a quote.
Is it the same kit across the range?
No. Bearing sizes and seal diameters differ. Match the full model number on your sticker against the listing title.
Why did they fail?
The seal let water through, usually after years of overloading or an unbalanced machine.
How fast does a Bosch drum bearings arrive?
