Quick answer: A Haier washing machine heating element (heater) heats the water in a washer or dishwasher, or the air in a dryer. The first sign of failure is usually this: clothes are wet and cold at the end of a dryer cycle, but the drum turns. Replacement heating elements for Haier washing machines run about $30–40; an element is a mid-priced part and usually the whole fix. Match the full model number on your Haier sticker (HWF10AN1, HWF10ANB1, HWF10BW1, HWF10DW1 and more) against the listing title before you order.

What the heating element does on a Haier washing machine
The heating element heats the water in a washer or dishwasher, or the air in a dryer. On Haier washing machines sold in Australia the same part is shared across model families, which is why one listing covers several model numbers, and why two heating elements that look alike are not interchangeable: the mounting, the plug and the signal differ between families. The full model number on your sticker settles it.
Isolate at the wall before you touch terminals. 240 V work on a hard-wired appliance is for a licensed person.
Symptoms of a failed Haier heating element
| What you see | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| Clothes are wet and cold at the end of a dryer cycle, but the drum turns | The element is open-circuit or a thermal fuse has blown |
| The wash runs cold on a hot program | The element has failed, or the thermistor is not reading |
| A heating error on the display | The board cannot see the element drawing power |
| A burnt smell and then no heat | A broken coil or a failed thermal cut-out |
Is it really the heating element?
On a dryer, a blocked lint filter or vent trips the thermal cut-out long before the element fails; clean them both and reset or replace the cut-out first. On a washer or dishwasher, a scaled element still heats slowly, so run a descaler before you condemn it. Test the element for continuity before you buy.
Where is the model sticker on a Haier washing machine
Inside the door opening, on the rim, or behind the detergent drawer. Write the full code down, letters and numbers, or photograph it: the suffix matters, and the badge on the front of the machine is not enough. Our Haier model number guide has photos of each spot.
Which Haier heating element is listed for your model
One row per model number as it appears on the sticker. The part column is the listing title, which names every model that listing covers.

Replacing the heating element: the job in order
- Pull the plug. Dryer: remove the back or front panel to reach the heater box. Washer and dishwasher: the element sits in the bottom of the tub, reached from behind or below.
- Photograph the terminals and any thermostats on the element before you unplug anything.
- Release the terminals and the fixing nut or screws, and draw the element out.
- Install the new element with its seal, tighten evenly, and reinstall the terminals and thermostats.
- Plug in and run a short cycle; check for heat and, on a tub element, for leaks around the seal.
DIY or a repairer?
For most people this is a DIY job: an element is a mid-priced part and usually the whole fix. A repairer’s call-out in Australia is in the $100–165 band before the part, so the saving is the labour. Use a licensed repairer if the appliance is hard-wired, if you find burnt or melted wiring, if gas or sealed refrigerant is involved, or if the new part does not cure the fault, because the next suspect is usually the control board and that is fitted after diagnosis, not before.
Frequently asked questions
The dryer runs but blows cold. Element or something else?
Clean the lint filter and the vent first, then look for a thermal cut-out on the heater box: many have a small reset button. If the cut-out is fine and the element shows no continuity, it is the element. If the element is good, the thermostat or the board is next.
Do I need a repairer?
Element work is 240 V. If you are not confident testing and reconnecting terminals, use a repairer. Hard-wired appliances are always a repairer's job.
Is it the same element across the range?
No. Wattage, shape and terminal layout differ. Match the full model number on your sticker against the listing title.
Why did it fail?
Age, scale, and on dryers a choked vent running the element hot. Keep the filter and vent clear.
The new element trips the power. Why?
Water in the heater box, a damaged seal, or a wiring fault. Stop and have it checked.
