Replace it (about 30 minutes):
- Unplug the dryer and remove the front or top panel to reach the drum.
- Note how the old belt routes around the motor pulley and tensioner, then lift it off.
- Loop the new belt around the drum, ribbed side against the pulleys, and thread it through the tensioner and motor pulley.
- Turn the drum by hand two full turns to check the belt is centred, then refit the panel.
About This Part
Simpson used one fan belt right across its vented dryer range, so this is the belt whether the machine in your laundry is a Minimax, a Maxidry or a Sirocco. The belt is the rubber drive loop stretched over the motor and fan pulleys; years of heat harden it until the dryer starts squealing on start-up, then slipping, and finally the drum stands still while the motor runs on. This replacement is moulded in one continuous piece with no welded join, about 25 cm in diameter before fitting — a fresh belt always looks smaller than the stretched one it replaces. More than a hundred Simpson models and several Westinghouse dryers are covered in the list below, and the belt is backed by a 12-month replacement warranty.
