Replace it (two to four hours; the hardest job on this page):
- Unplug and strip the machine to reach the tub: top, front panel, door seal, counterweights and drum pulley.
- Press the drum shaft out of the old bearings and clean the tub housing.
- Fit the new lip seal and bearings, grease the seal lip, and reassemble in reverse.
- Run an empty spin to confirm the noise is gone.
About This Part
This kit replaces the drum bearings and lip seal in Fisher & Paykel front load washing machines across the WH1060, WH1160 and WH1260 series (store ref 0198). It contains two drum bearings and one lip seal, the three parts that wear together once water gets past the old seal and onto the bearing races.
The usual symptom is a machine that gets steadily louder on spin, a deep rumble or roar that builds with drum speed, sometimes with grey marks on washing from the failed rear seal. Replacing the seal without the bearings, or one bearing without the other, tends to bring the noise back, which is why the parts are supplied as a set.
