The pump empties the outer tub at the end of each wash and rinse phase; when it fails, the machine stops with water still in the drum, hums at the drain step, or raises a drain-timeout error.
Coins and bra wires jammed in the impeller produce the same symptoms, so clear the pump filter before condemning the pump itself.
