Quick answer: If your Hisense fridge has a freezer that’s still cold but a fridge section that’s gone warm, the most common cause is the electric air damper (Hisense calls it the wind gate) — the motorised flap that lets cold air from the freezer into the fridge. When it sticks shut or its motor fails, the freezer stays frozen but the fridge stops getting cold air. The other suspects are the fridge temperature sensor and the evaporator fan. All are inexpensive parts and a manageable DIY fix.

Why the freezer is cold but the fridge is warm
In most Hisense fridges, all the cooling happens in the freezer, and a motorised air damper meters cold air up into the fridge compartment. If the freezer is still frozen, the compressor and coil are working — so a warm fridge points to a delivery problem, not a cooling failure:
| Cause | How to spot it |
|---|---|
| Air damper (wind gate) stuck or motor failed | Freezer fine, fridge warm, no air felt from the fridge vent |
| Fridge temperature sensor faulty | Control misreads the fridge temp and won’t call for cold air |
| Evaporator fan not running | Freezer cold but little airflow reaching the fridge vent |
| Vents iced or blocked with food | Internal air ducts packed with frost or crammed shelves |
Confirm it’s the air damper
- Check the freezer is genuinely cold. If the freezer is frozen but the fridge is warm, the cooling system is fine and the problem is air delivery to the fridge.
- Find the fridge air vent (usually high up at the back of the fridge section) and feel for cold air with the fridge running. Little or no airflow points to the damper or fan.
- Listen and look: the damper should click and open when the fridge calls for cold. A damper stuck shut, or one whose motor is dead, is the classic cause.
- Clear any food blocking the vents and make sure no frost has built over the ducts before condemning a part.
The parts that fix it
We stock the Hisense air-flow parts and dispatch them from Sydney:
| Symptom | Part |
|---|---|
No cold air to the fridge / damper stuck | Electric air damper (wind gate) — HR6BMFF · HR6BMFF520SD / HR6FDFF630S |
Fridge temperature misread | Temperature sensor |
Weak airflow to the fridge | Evaporator fan motor |
The air damper varies across the Hisense range (HR6BMFF, HRCD, HRFD and others), so read the model sticker on the inside wall and run it through the Part Finder for the exact fit.
Repair vs replace
| Path | Cost |
|---|---|
| DIY: air damper / sensor / fan | Inexpensive part, under an hour |
| Professional repair: part + call-out | $180–$300 |
| Replacement Hisense fridge | $600–$1,500 |
A warm-fridge-cold-freezer fault is one of the most worthwhile repairs there is — the expensive cooling system is working perfectly, and you’re replacing a small airflow part.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my Hisense freezer cold but the fridge warm?
The cold air isn’t reaching the fridge — most often the motorised air damper (wind gate) has stuck or its motor has failed, so the freezer stays frozen while the fridge warms.
Is a warm fridge with a working freezer worth repairing?
Definitely — it means the compressor and coil are fine and you’re only replacing an inexpensive airflow part like the damper, sensor or fan.
Could it just be blocked vents?
Yes — clear any food crammed against the rear vents and check for frost over the ducts first. If airflow is still missing, it’s the damper or fan.
Where is the Hisense model number?
On the model sticker on the inside wall of the fridge — codes start with HR. Enter it in the Part Finder.
Do these parts ship same day?
Yes — order before 12pm Sydney time, same-day dispatch Australia-wide, flat $10.60 shipping.
