Quick answer: A Haier washing machine suspension rods (suspension rods, springs or shock absorbers) hold the tub and let it move a little on spin without hitting the cabinet. The first sign of failure is usually this: loud banging on spin, worse with a bigger load. Replacement suspension rods and dampers for Haier washing machines run about $50–80; a set of rods is cheaper than a service call and usually ends the banging for good. Match the full model number on your Haier sticker (61390-A, 62360-A, HWM90DD, HWMP50F and more) against the listing title before you order.

What the suspension rods does on a Haier washing machine
The suspension rods hold the tub and let it move a little on spin without hitting the cabinet. On Haier washing machines sold in Australia the same part is shared across model families, which is why one listing covers several model numbers, and why two suspension rods and dampers that look alike are not interchangeable: the mounting, the plug and the signal differ between families. The full model number on your sticker settles it.
Pull the plug and turn off the taps before you open the cabinet. The tub is heavy; get a helper when you unhook the rods.
Symptoms of a failed Haier suspension rods
| What you see | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| Loud banging on spin, worse with a bigger load | Rods or dampers have lost their damping; the tub hits the cabinet |
| The machine walks across the floor on spin | Tub out of control, or the feet are not level |
| The tub sits low or leans to one side when empty | A rod has stretched, broken or popped out of its cup |
| An unbalanced-load stop on every cycle even with a mixed load | The tub swings further than the sensor allows |
Is it really the suspension rods?
Before you buy rods, level the machine on all four feet, and check nothing is caught between the tub and the cabinet. On a top loader, lift the lid and push the tub down and let go: it should settle in one smooth movement. If it bounces two or three times, the suspension is tired. If the machine is new to the house, check the transit bolts came out.
Where is the model sticker on a Haier washing machine
Inside the door opening, on the rim, or behind the detergent drawer. Write the full code down, letters and numbers, or photograph it: the suffix matters, and the badge on the front of the machine is not enough. Our Haier model number guide has photos of each spot.
Which Haier suspension rods is listed for your model
One row per model number as it appears on the sticker. The part column is the listing title, which names every model that listing covers.

Replacing the suspension rods: the job in order
- Pull the plug and turn off the taps. On a top loader the rods change from the top: remove the top panel or console.
- Note how each rod sits in its cup at the cabinet corner and where the lower end hooks under the tub. Photograph it.
- Lift the tub slightly to unload one rod, unhook the bottom, and lift the top out of its cup. Change one at a time so the tub stays supported.
- Install the new rod top first, then hook the bottom under the tub. Repeat for each corner; always change a full set.
- Reinstall the console and run a spin with an empty drum, then a mixed load.
- Re-level the feet once the machine has settled.
DIY or a repairer?
For most people this is a DIY job: a set of rods is cheaper than a service call and usually ends the banging for good. A repairer’s call-out in Australia is in the $100–165 band before the part, so the saving is the labour. Use a licensed repairer if the appliance is hard-wired, if you find burnt or melted wiring, if gas or sealed refrigerant is involved, or if the new part does not cure the fault, because the next suspect is usually the control board and that is fitted after diagnosis, not before.
Frequently asked questions
The machine bangs on spin but seems fine on wash. Suspension or something else?
Banging only on spin is the signature of tired suspension or an unbalanced load. Try a mixed load of similar items first; if a normal load still bangs, press the tub down and watch it bounce. Grinding or rumbling that gets louder with speed is bearings, not suspension, and that is a different repair.
Do I have to replace all the rods?
Yes. One new rod against three tired ones puts the tub off centre and the banging continues.
Front loader or top loader, is it the same part?
No. Top loaders use rods with springs; front loaders use shock absorbers and springs. The listing title says which machine it is for; match the full model number.
Is this a repairer's job?
On a top loader it is an afternoon with a torch and a helper to hold the tub. Front-loader dampers often mean the back panel comes off; still doable, but heavier.
The machine is only a few years old. Why did they fail?
Overloading and running on an uneven floor wear them fast. Level the machine and keep loads mixed.
