What does the lint filter do?
The filter is a mesh bag in a perforated plastic frame that clips inside the drum. It catches lint lifted out of the wash water so it does not settle back onto the clothes. When the mesh tears or the frame cracks, lint goes straight back into the load, and you get grey fluff on dark washing that no amount of rewashing shifts.
This is the cheapest part on the machine and the one most often left broken, because the symptom looks like a detergent problem rather than a hardware one.
What causes a CHiQ top loader to over-fill or under-fill?
The water level pressure sensor reads how much water is in the tub and tells the control board when to stop filling. It senses through a small air tube connected to the bottom of the tub. When the sensor drifts or fails, the machine either keeps filling past the level it should stop at, or fills so little that the load never moves properly through the water.
Before replacing it, check the air tube is connected and not kinked or blocked. A blocked tube produces exactly the same fault for free.
Why will my CHiQ top loader not drain?
The drain motor pumps water out at the end of the cycle. When it fails, the machine finishes with a tub full of water, often with the display still counting down or the cycle stalling entirely.
Check the obvious things first, because they cost nothing: a kinked or raised drain hose, and a blockage at the pump. If the pump is clear, the hose runs cleanly and you can hear no motor noise at drain time, the drain motor is the part.
