Quick answer: The most common cause of a dE error on an LG WD14030D6, WD14039D6 or WD1409NPE front loader is a worn door latch — either the hook on the door handle or the door interlock switch it clicks into. Replacing both is a 20–30 minute screwdriver job. Check for a caught sock or a bunched door seal first, then the handle hook, then the interlock. The LG door lock and handle kit (EBF61315810 interlock plus the 3650ER2005B handle kit) covers both wear points in one order — here is how to confirm the fault before buying anything.

What dE means on the LG WD14030D6 family
dE is LG’s door error. When you press Start, the control board expects the door interlock to report “closed and locked” within a few seconds; if that signal never arrives, or drops out mid-wash, the display shows dE and the cycle stops. The WD14030D6, WD14030FD6, WD14030RD6, WD14039D6, WD14070D6 and WD1409NPE are all listed against the same door lock and handle kit, so the same three causes cover nearly every dE: something stopping the door closing, a worn hook on the door handle, or a worn interlock behind the front panel.
A washing machine door lock typically costs $30–47 AUD (median $39.55), as at August 2026. Nothing in the job needs the drum out, which is why many owners fix dE themselves rather than book a call-out.
Models covered and what to order
Read the model sticker inside the door opening or on the back panel before you order.
| LG model (check the model sticker) | Fault covered | What to order |
|---|---|---|
WD14030D6, WD14030FD6, WD14030RD6, WD14039D6, WD14070D6, WD1409NPE | dE at start or mid-cycle, door won’t lock, loose handle | LG door lock & handle kit (EBF61315810 + 3650ER2005B) |
| WD14135D6, WD1409NPW | As above | Same kit (also listed) |
Any of the above, interlock only | Handle firm, hook intact, no lock click or dE mid-cycle | LG door interlock switch on its own |
Any of the above, handle only | Handle floppy or hook not catching, interlock clicks normally | LG door handle kit on its own |

If your LG is not in that list, send us the model number from the sticker and we’ll check, or use the part finder above.
The dE decision path: sock, hook, then interlock
Work through these in order, with the machine unplugged and both taps off before you put a hand inside the door opening.

1. Something in the way
A sock or sheet corner folded over the lip of the door seal will stop the hook seating, and so will an overfull drum pressing the door outward. Run a finger round the inside of the seal, clear anything you find and check the lip has not flipped over. Close the door firmly and run a short rinse and spin. If dE stays away on the next full load you need no parts; if it returns, keep going.
2. The handle and hook
The hook that enters the interlock is part of the handle assembly on the door and rides in and out of the slot every time you open the machine. Signs the handle side is worn: the handle feels loose or does not spring back; you have to slam the door to get it to lock; the door pops open under light pressure; or the hook is chipped, rounded off or sitting at an angle. A worn hook can still hold the door shut but not travel far enough to trip the switch — the “door looks closed, still says dE” complaint.
3. The interlock switch
The interlock is the plastic block behind the front panel that the hook drops into, and it wears too — the slot where the hook rubs, and the contacts that age with every hot cycle. Signs: the door closes with a solid feel but there is no click after Start and the door-lock light stays off; the machine locks and runs, then throws dE part-way through, typically on hot washes; the slot is chewed out or cracked; or the door will not release at the end (see our door won’t open mid-cycle guide). Do not defeat the interlock to run a cycle — it is the safety device on a machine spinning at high speed with hot water inside.
Why the interlock and handle come as one kit
The hook and the interlock slot wear against each other, so when one is worn the other has been running against a worn mating surface for just as long. Fit a new interlock behind a rounded-off hook and the hook still may not travel far enough; fit a new handle into a chewed-out slot and the fresh hook rattles in it. Either way you are back to dE within a month or two, doing the same 20–30 minute job twice. Both come out through the same door opening, so doing them together adds only minutes.
The LG door lock and handle kit is the interlock switch and the door handle kit in one order, priced below buying the two parts separately, and sits in our Repair Kits range.
The kit makes sense when both hook and slot show wear, or you have dE at start and a tired handle. A single part is the better call when the handle snapped on a young machine and the slot is clean (handle kit alone), or the handle is firm and the only symptom is a mid-cycle dE (interlock alone).
Replacing the interlock and handle: a 20–30 minute job
You need a Phillips screwdriver, a small flat blade for the seal clamp, a torch and your phone camera.

- Isolate. Unplug the machine, turn off both taps and pull it forward enough to open the door fully.
- Interlock. Ease the outer spring clamp off the front lip of the door seal and peel the seal back on the latch side. Undo the screws holding the interlock to the front panel beside the hook slot and draw it in through the gap. Photograph the connector, swap it to the new interlock, screw the new unit in without overtightening, then refit the seal lip and clamp all the way round.
- Handle. Undo the hinge screws, lift the door off and lay it face down on a towel. Undo the screws around the inner ring, separate the halves and swap the handle assembly across, noting how the old one is oriented. Screw positions vary slightly between models, so photograph each stage before reassembling.
- Test. Plug in, taps on, short rinse and spin, drum empty. Listen for the lock click after Start, watch for the door-lock light and check the seal is not pinched.
Many owners do this from a video in one sitting; if you would rather not split the door, a local repairer can fit both parts quickly.
When it isn’t the latch
A small share of dE faults survive new parts. Hinge sag: if the door has dropped, the hook enters the slot at an angle — lift the door slightly as you close it, and if dE clears the hinge needs attention, not the lock. Chafed wiring: the loom to the interlock can rub through behind the front panel; look while the seal is peeled back. Control board: rare, and diagnosed by elimination — the point to call a tradie rather than buy more parts.
Two related reads: our LG dE / DE error code hub covers the wider LG range, and if your washer is also loud on spin, that is bearings or the spider shaft rather than the door — see LG front loader loud on spin.
Frequently asked questions
What does the dE error mean on an LG WD14030D6?
dE is the door error: the control board did not receive the “door closed and locked” signal from the interlock switch. On the WD14030D6 and its sister models it is almost always a caught item on the seal, a worn hook, or a worn interlock — checked in that order.
Do I need both parts, or just the interlock?
If the handle is firm and the only symptom is a lock that will not click or drops out mid-cycle, the EBF61315810 interlock on its own is a reasonable buy. If the handle feels loose or the hook is worn too, fit both: they wear against each other, and replacing one against a worn partner tends to bring dE back within weeks. The door lock and handle kit pairs the interlock with the 3650ER2005B door handle kit for that reason.
My LG is a WD1409NPW or WD14135D6 — is it the same kit?
Both are on the kit’s listed models alongside the WD14030D6, WD14039D6 and WD1409NPE. Confirm the full model number on the model sticker, and if yours differs by even a letter, send it to us and we’ll check.
I have an LG in the WVC or WXL series — is this the same lock?
No. Those series use a different door switch, listed separately as the LG door switch for WVC and WXL models; it is not interchangeable with this kit, so match your model sticker to the listing.
How long does the job take, and do I need special tools?
Allow 20–30 minutes, a little longer if you are also splitting the door for the handle. A Phillips screwdriver, a small flat blade and a torch cover it; unplug the machine and turn off the taps first.
