Step 1: The free fixes (do these first)
Turn both taps hard on, straighten any kinks in the inlet hoses, then unscrew the hoses at the machine end. Inside each valve inlet sits a small mesh screen — grit, scale and thread tape shreds collect there until the machine starves. Rinse the screens under the tap, refit, and test. Step 2: Confirm the valve is dead
Start a cycle and listen at the back corner where the hoses attach. A working valve gives a soft clunk and a hum as water flows. Silence with good tap pressure means the electromagnetic coil has failed — they die of old age and hard water, and cleaning won’t bring one back. If only the hot or only the cold side fills, one coil of a dual valve has gone while its twin soldiers on.

The swap takes about 30 minutes: unplug, taps off, remove the top panel (two screws at the back), photograph the wiring, swap the spade connectors and outlet hoses across, and screw the new valve to the cabinet. Step 4: Erratic filling? It’s the pressure switch
When the water flows fine but the machine can’t decide when to stop — overfilling, underfilling, or restarting the fill over and over — the level sensor is lying to the board.
