Quick answer: If your Euro or Electrolux vented dryer runs and warms up but the drum sits dead still, the drum belt has snapped. It’s a $25 part and about a 45-minute DIY job — and if your dryer is wall-mounted, fit the proper bracket kit so it hangs safely. A new dryer is several hundred dollars, so the belt is the obvious fix.

Why the drum stops while the motor runs
A vented dryer uses one belt looped around the drum and the motor pulley. It bakes in dryer heat for years and eventually snaps or stretches. When it goes, the motor and fan keep running — you hear it and feel warm air — but the drum doesn’t move, so nothing dries.
| Cause | How to spot it |
|---|---|
| Snapped drum belt | Motor runs, warm air blows, drum dead still |
| Stretched / glazed belt | Drum slips on a full load, squeals on start, belt looks shiny and cracked |
| Belt jumped the pulley | Drum spins freely by hand with no resistance |
| Seized idler or drum bearing | Drum stiff to turn by hand — fix before fitting a belt |
| No power / dead motor | Nothing runs at all — not a belt fault |
Confirm it’s the belt
- Unplug the dryer and open the door. Spin the drum by hand — a free, weightless spin means the belt has snapped or come off.
- Start a cycle briefly: warm air at the front with a still drum is the belt, not the heater.
- Check the drum turns smoothly by hand with no grinding — a rough drum means a bearing or idler problem on top of the belt.
- Take a panel off and look for the broken belt in the base, or a slack stretched belt sitting off the pulley.
If it’s wall-mounted: never bodge a dryer back onto a wall with the wrong fixings. A loaded dryer is heavy — use the matched wall mount bracket kit so it’s held securely.
Order the right parts for your dryer
Match the model on your sticker. The Euro belt suits the 7 kg vented model; the Electrolux bracket kit safely wall-mounts the EDV range:
- Euro 7 kg vented dryer drum belt — E7SDWH — $24.95
- Electrolux dryer wall mount bracket kit — EDV5051 / EDV505 / EDV5552 / EDV6051 — $18.95

Replace the drum belt (about 45 minutes)
- Unplug at the wall. If the dryer is wall-mounted, lift it down onto a bench.
- Remove the front or rear panel (a few screws) to expose the drum, motor pulley and idler.
- Photograph the belt routing around the drum, motor pulley and idler before removing anything.
- Clear the old belt — lift it off or remove the snapped pieces.
- Loop the new belt around the drum in the existing track, then over the motor pulley and around the idler to tension it.
- Turn the drum by hand a full revolution to seat the belt and check it runs true.
- Refit the panel, restore power and run a short empty cycle to confirm the drum tumbles before loading.
Wall-mounting safely: fit the bracket kit into solid wall framing, level it, and seat the dryer fully onto the bracket before letting go. Check it’s secure before you load it.

Frequently asked questions
My vented dryer runs and gets warm but the drum won’t turn — is it the belt?
Almost certainly. Warm air with a still drum is the textbook snapped-belt sign. Unplug it and spin the drum by hand to confirm.
Can I reuse the old wall bracket?
Only if it’s the correct kit and in good condition. If it’s missing parts or damaged, fit the matched bracket kit — a loaded dryer is too heavy to risk.
The drum is hard to turn even with the belt off — what now?
That points to a seized idler or worn drum bearing. Sort that first or the new belt will glaze and slip.
Will the Euro belt fit my Electrolux dryer?
No — belts differ by model. Order by your model and check with the Part Finder if you’re unsure.
